Virtual marking for UK patents

From 1st October 2014, UK patent holders will have the option of providing a web page address on patented products, instead of patent numbers as at present.  The web page must clearly associate the UK patent number with the product.

The introduction of virtual marking will make it easier for patent holders to keep patent details up to date.

Marking of products, either in the traditional way (on the product itself or packaging) or taking advantage of the new virtual marking option, is important for the recovery of damages in the event of patent infringement.
